Microwave removed to prep walls. After stripping the wallpaper behind the microwave I found minor damage from a stove fire. That explains why the kitchen had two identical layers of wallpaper over the original wallpaper. As I stripped the wallpaper near the stove I could see the smoke damage. The cabinet under the microwave showed only smoke damage. No charred wood was found. This fire happened back when there was only a vent hood over the stove and once the past owners installed the microwave it completely hid the smoke damage to the cabinet sides.
